CONSULAR MATTERS - LOSS OF SINGAPORE PASSPORT

If you had your passport lost (stolen, misplaced, etc) in the US, you should first report the loss to a US police station as soon as possible.

You should then contact one of the Singapore Overseas Missions and provide the following information:

  1. Your Name, NRIC No, Date of Birth and Contact Number;
  2. Your intended departure date from US and the city which you will be departing from;
  3. Circumstances on how your passport was lost;
  4. Whether you possess any other documents which can prove your identity such as photocopy of your lost passport, driving licence, photo credit card, NRIC, etc.

The Consular Officer will require 1 day (may be longer during weekends/public holidays) to establish your identity with Singapore authorities. Hence, you may wish to re-schedule your departure date out of the US, if necessary.

Once your identity has been established, the Singapore Overseas Mission will be able to issue you with a temporary travel document called a Document of Identity (DOI) in lieu of a passport to facilitate your one-way return to Singapore.

(Note: If you are residing in the US, you may consider applying for a replacement passport which will take about 3 weeks processing time.)

You may apply for your DOI either in person at the Singapore Overseas Mission or via post (may take longer due to delivery timings). Please provide for the application: one colored passport-sized photograph, US$11.00 (cash, money order or cashier’s cheque) for the DOI, and a copy of the police report (if the report is not immediately available, you may execute a Statutory Declaration which costs US$4 for the loss of your passport). Please see additional notes below for payment information.

If you will be transiting in another country, please note that entry into that country remains the prerogative of the foreign immigration authorities, based on its prevailing entry and visa requirements. The onus lies with the applicant to check with the relevant foreign authorities on the acceptance of a DOI.

Please also note that all Singaporeans who report the loss of their passports overseas will have their passports invalidated with immediate effect. Should the lost/stolen passport be recovered subsequently, the Singaporean should surrender the recovered passport to ICA within 14 days.
