The Consulate-General in San Francisco covers Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, Wyoming and all the US territories & outlying islands (except Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands).
This Mission was opened on 19 May 2000.
About the Consul-General
Mr William Chik Kam Weng is appointed Singapore’s Consul-General to San Francisco since October 2020.
Born in 1966, Mr Chik graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from National University of Singapore in 1991. He obtained his Master’s Degree (Arts) in 1994 from National University of Singapore and second Master’s Degree (Strategic Studies) in 2002 from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Mr Chik joined the Singapore Foreign Service in 1994, and has specialised in the Southeast Asia and South Asia regions throughout his career. He was assigned as Country Officer for Malaysia and Vietnam, Laos & Cambodia in the Policy, Planning & Analysis Directorate 1 from September 1994 to August 1996 and subsequently as Senior Technical Cooperation Officer at the Technical Cooperation Directorate from August 1996 to June 1997. His first overseas assignment was as First Secretary in the Singapore Embassy in Yangon from June 1997 to February 2001. Upon his return to Ministry Headquarters, Mr Chik was assigned as Assistant Director for Thailand in the Policy, Planning & Analysis Directorate 1 from February 2001 to July 2001, and re-assigned to ASEAN Directorate as Assistant Director (Regional Policy) from November 2002 to January 2003. He returned to Policy, Planning & Analysis Directorate 1 as Assistant Director for Thailand from February 2003 to April 2005, when the Directorate was renamed Southeast Asia Directorate. Mr Chik was posted to the Singapore Embassy in Cambodia as Deputy Chief of Mission & First Secretary (Political) from March 2006 to March 2009, and as Deputy Chief of Mission & Counsellor after he was promoted in April 2009. He was later posted to the Singapore Embassy in Yangon as Deputy Chief of Mission & Counsellor from December 2010 to December 2014. He was Deputy Director (South Asia) in the South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa Directorate from January 2015 to May 2017. Prior to his current appointment, Mr Chik was Singapore’s Consul to Bangladesh in Dhaka from June 2017 to August 2020. He was promoted in April 2018.
Mr Chik is married to Madam Nemu Abe.
