Singapore congratulates Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of its 37th National Day

President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan have written to His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance and Economy, and Minister of Foreign Affairs to convey their congratulations on the occasion of Brunei's 37th National Day on 23 February 2021.  The text of the letters are appended.

On the auspicious occasion of the 37th National Day of Brunei Darussalam, it gives me great pleasure to convey, on behalf of the people of Singapore, our warmest congratulations to Your Majesty and the people of Brunei.

 

Your Majesty’s wise and benevolent rule has enabled Brunei to grow from strength to strength and weather the tremendous challenges wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. I am confident that Brunei will continue to flourish under Your Majesty’s reign.

 

Singapore and Brunei enjoy a special bond underpinned by deep ties between our leaders, and warm friendship among our peoples. It is a relationship steeped in history and a forward-looking vision to continue to build on new areas of cooperation. We welcome the shared commitment to further strengthen the special relationship between our countries for successive generations.

 

My husband and I wish Your Majesty and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha good health and success, and we look forward to meeting you again soon.

                       On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I would like to convey our heartiest congratulations to Your Majesty and the people of Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of Brunei’s 37th National Day.

 

                       Brunei has enjoyed lasting peace, prosperity, and stability.  Brunei’s fortitude and resilience, despite the COVID-19 pandemic over the past year, reflects Your Majesty’s strong leadership and the unity of its people.  In these trying times, we appreciate Brunei’s important role as the ASEAN Chair in helping our region bounce back from the global pandemic and deal with many challenges facing ASEAN.

 

                       Brunei and Singapore have enjoyed a special and longstanding relationship through several generations. Both sides are keen to deepen our partnership in more sectors and fields. With Your Majesty’s support, I am sure our ties will grow from strength to strength in many years to come.
