Singapore congratulates Brunei Darussalam on the occasion of its 34th National Day

President Halimah Yacob, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan have written to His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan of Negara Brunei Darussalam, Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade to convey their congratulations on the occasion of Brunei's 34th National Day on 23 February 2018.  The text of the letters are appended.

Your Majesty,

 

                   On behalf of the people of Singapore, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to Your Majesty and the people of Brunei Darussalam on the momentous occasion of Brunei’s 34th National Day.

 

                    Brunei’s stability, growth, and success are testament to Your Majesty’s wise and benevolent rule over the years. Under Your Majesty’s strong leadership, I am confident that Brunei will continue to prosper in the years ahead.

 

                   Singapore and Brunei share longstanding and multi-faceted relations, underpinned by close people-to-people ties, deep historical links, and strong institutional cooperation across all sectors.  Singapore was honoured by Your Majesty’s State Visit in July 2017, during which our two countries commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement. I look forward to working with Your Majesty to further strengthen the special relationship between our two countries in the coming years.

 

                   I wish Your Majesty and Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha continued good health and happiness. I look forward to visiting Brunei soon.
