Singapore ratifies the ASEAN Haze Agreement

Singapore has ratified the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution. Singapore deposited its instrument of ratification with the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on 13 Jan 03.

At the recent 7th Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (7th IAMME) held in Vientiane on 20-21 Nov 2002, ASEAN Environment Ministers had agreed to expedite the national ratification process so as to bring the Haze Agreement into force early. The Agreement will enter into force 60 days after ratification by 6 ASEAN countries.

Under the Agreement, Parties are required to pursue national, regional as well as international actions to prevent and control burning activities that may result in transboundary haze pollution.
