Notice regarding Hurricane Florence - Update on 11 September 2018

11 Sep 2018

Hurricane Florence remains as a Category 4 storm and is strengthening as it heads towards South Carolina and North Carolina in the next few days. In anticipation of the damage done by Hurricane Florence, President Trump has issued a federal emergency declaration for North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. This action authorises the federal government to coordinate all disaster relief efforts in those states. Besides the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland, the District of Columbia recently declared a state of emergency. Mandatory evacuation orders are also in place along the coastal areas of the Carolinas and Virginia.

Singaporeans in the path of Hurricane Florence are reminded to be vigilant, take necessary precautions and ensure that you have your hurricane plan in place. We encourage you to visit the US Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website for information on how to prepare for a hurricane. We also advise that you heed the advice of local authorities at all times, including evacuation orders. Do remember to stay in touch with your family and friends so that they know you are safe.
