MFA Press Statement: Appointment of Singapore's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China - 25/01/2012

The Government has appointed Mr Stanley Loh Ka Leung as Singapore's next Ambassador to the People's Republic of China.

Mr Loh joined the Administrative Service in 1995. Between 1997 and 2000, he served as First Secretary and later Counsellor in the Singapore High Commission to Malaysia. In 2000, he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Singapore Embassy to the United States of America. In 2004, Mr Loh was appointed Press Secretary to then Prime Minister and later Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. In 2005, Mr Loh was concurrently appointed as Director (Middle East) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr Loh was Singapore's Trade Representative in Taipei from July 2007 to April 2011 when he returned to Singapore to take up his appointment as Deputy Secretary (International) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Loh studied at the National University of Singapore under a Singapore Government Local Merit Scholarship and graduated with First Class Honours in Economics in 1995. From 2003 to 2004, Mr Loh attended the Sloan Masters Programme at Stanford University in California, USA, and graduated with a Masters of Science in Management.

Mr Loh is married to Mdm Kim Lee Seow Hong. They have one daughter.

MR STANLEY LOH


Mr Stanley Loh (ÂÞ¼ÒÁ¼) was Deputy Secretary (International) of the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs from April 2011 to January 2012. He had responsibility for the Directorates covering ASEAN, Northeast Asia, Europe, International Organisations, International Economics, Public Affairs and Technical Cooperation.

Born on 13 April 1971, Mr Loh studied at the National University of Singapore under a Singapore Government Local Merit Scholarship and graduated with First Class Honours in Economics in 1995.

From 2003 to 2004, Mr Loh attended the Sloan Masters Programme in Stanford University in California, USA, and graduated with a Masters of Science in Management.

Mr Loh joined the Administrative Service in 1995. Between 1997 and 2000, he served as First Secretary and later Counsellor in the Singapore High Commission to Malaysia. In 2000, he was appointed as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Singapore Embassy to the USA. During this period, Mr Loh was Spokesperson for the Singapore delegation to the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement negotiation and Deputy Head of the Special Taskforce for securing US Congressional ratification of the agreement.

In 2004, Mr Loh was appointed as Press Secretary to then Prime Minister and later Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. He was responsible for managing Senior Minister Goh's public activities and media relations. In 2005, Mr Loh was concurrently appointed as Director for the Middle East in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr Loh served as Trade Representative in Taipei from July 2007 to April 2011. In this capacity, he was Singapore's Head of Delegation for the negotiations for an Agreement between Singapore and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu for Economic Partnership (ASTEP).

Mr Loh is married to Mdm Kim Lee Seow Hong. They have one daughter.

Mr Loh enjoys exercise, reading and travelling. He is an aspiring golfer.
