STATEMENT BY MS JOPHIE TANG, DEPUTY PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE TO THE UNITED NATIONS, AT THE 2019 UNITED NATIONS PLEDGING CONFERENCE FOR DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES, 13 NOVEMBER 2019

Mr President,

 

                    Congratulations on your election as President of the 2019 United Nations Pledging Conference for Development Activities. Singapore is pleased to make the following pledges for the United Nations’ development activities for the year 2020. The composition of our pledges is as follows:

 

  1. United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Human Trafficking in Personas, Especially Women and Children – US$5,000

     

  2. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) – US$5,000

     

  3. G77 Account for Economic Cooperation (G77-ECDC) – US$5,000

     

  4. Fund of the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) – US$10,000

     

  5. Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) – US$15,000

     

    (US$10,000 for the Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund to Support the Participation of LDCs and SIDS; and US$5,000 for the Voluntary Fund for the Financial and Technical Assistance for the Implementation of the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism)

     

  6. United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) – US$20,000

     

  7. Trust Fund of the Asian Seas – US$20,000

     

  8. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) – US$50,000

     

  9. United Nations Development Fund for Women (UN Women) – US$50,000

     

  10. United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) – US$50,000

     

  11. Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) – US$50,000

     

  12. Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) – US$60,000

     

  13. United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – US$300,000

 

2                  As in previous years, Singapore will continue to respond and support other United Nations activities during the year 2020 as opportunities arise and pledges for these additional voluntary contributions will be made at the appropriate time.

 

3                  We hope that our pledges, together with those of other countries, will contribute to the efforts of these development programmes in advancing the goals of the United Nations system, including the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
