Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam met with Timor-Leste Mentoring Minister and Minister of Planning and Strategic Investment Xanana Gusmão this afternoon. Timor-Leste Minister of Social Solidarity Isabel Guterres and Vice Minister of Finance Helder Lopes were also present at the meeting.
Mentoring Minister Gusmão and Minister Shanmugam reaffirmed the warm relations between Timor-Leste and Singapore. Minister Shanmugam expressed Singapore’s appreciation for Timor-Leste’s gestures of support on the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. He reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to assist Timor-Leste’s capacity-building efforts through the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP). The Ministers also discussed recent developments in the region and Timor-Leste.
Mentoring Minister Gusmão is leading a high-level Timor-Leste delegation on a study visit to Singapore, organised under the SCP. Areas covered in the study visit include Singapore’s public service policies and the Central Provident Fund. Mentoring Minister Gusmão will depart Singapore on 15 August 2015.
