            President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have written to PRC President Xi Jinping and PRC Premier Li Keqiang respectively, to convey their condolences on the 12 August explosion at a warehouse at the Tianjin Port located in the Tianjin Binhai New Area.  The text of the letters is appended below.

Dear President Xi,

 

          I was saddened to learn about the explosion in the Tianjin Binhai New Area on 12 August evening.  On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend my deepest condolences to all the victims and the affected families.

 

          Tianjin is also home to many Singaporeans, including those who work in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city, which I visited during my recent State Visit.  I would like to thank you and the Government of Tianjin Municipality for the assistance provided to affected Singaporeans.

Condolence letter from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to PRC Premier Li Keqiang

Dear Premier Li,

 

         I was shocked to hear of the tragic explosions that occurred in Tianjin on 12 August.  Our thoughts and good wishes go to the victims, the affected families and our friends from China. 

 

         I am confident that rescue operations will be conducted effectively under your guidance and leadership, and the situation will be quickly brought under control.   Singapore stands ready to work closely with your Government and the Tianjin authorities to render any support you may need.
