UK Prime Minister David Cameron, who is on an official visit to Singapore, received a ceremonial welcome at the Istana this morning.  He then called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam and had a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. During the two meetings, the leaders reviewed bilateral relations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and the UK, and reaffirmed the long-standing ties between the two countries.

President Tan and Prime Minister Cameron noted the multi-faceted bilateral cooperation and agreed that both countries should continue to work together on the various joint initiatives announced in conjunction with President Tan’s State Visit to the UK in October 2014.  Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Cameron exchanged views on a wide variety of issues, including regional and international developments, countering extremism and radicalisation, the UK’s continued engagement of Asia and ways to strengthen bilateral economic ties.

Following their discussion, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cyber Security Cooperation between the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore and the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance (Cabinet Office) of the UK.  Prime Minister Lee also hosted lunch for Prime Minister Cameron and his delegation at the Istana.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Cameron visited Commonwealth Secondary School to learn about Singapore’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or ‘STEM’ Applied Learning Programme, and graced the opening of a Northern Powerhouse business seminar focussed on growing trade and investment links between Singapore and the UK.  Prime Minister Cameron departed Singapore this afternoon.
