Singapore to Participate in WHO Ebola Efforts

30 Apr 2015

In response to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Western Pacific Regional Office’s (WPRO) call on member states to contribute public health expertise to support global efforts in the fight against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the Ministry of Health (MOH) will be deploying a Public Health Officer to join the WPRO Ebola Support Team (WEST). WEST was launched in January this year and has its base in Port Loko, Sierra Leone. Its purpose is to provide technical and administrative support to ongoing efforts to control Ebola.

2          The MOH officer will work with a team of experts in the analysis of surveillance information on suspected and confirmed Ebola cases but will not be involved in the care of Ebola patients. The officer will be deployed for a period of six weeks. MOH will maintain close contact with the officer for the duration of his deployment with WEST.

3          MOH will continue to closely monitor the Ebola situation in West Africa, and ensure that public health is safeguarded.  For the latest Health Advisory and information, please refer to the MOH web page on Ebola.
