Advice to Singaporeans on Returning to Singapore

23 Mar 2020

Dear Singaporeans,

You would have seen an increase in local travel restrictions and curtailment of non-essential services introduced by the federal and state governments in Australia to minimise the spread of COVID-19.  Similarly, international travel restrictions are also increasing, and we expect a corresponding decrease in the availability of commercial flights.  Singapore Airlines (SIA) will temporarily suspend flights to/from Australia between 30 March and 11 April 2020.  We therefore reiterate the advice from MFA and MOE encouraging Singaporeans who wish to return home to do so quickly.

For those booked and holding confirmed tickets for travel on SIA flights between 30 March and 11 April 2020 who are impacted, you would have been contacted directly by SIA.  Anyone with urgent requirements are advised to check with your travel agent if you bought your ticket from a travel agent.  Those who had purchased a ticket directly from SIA can contact the SIA call centre at 13 10 11.  Please understand that due to high call volumes there may be long waiting times.  Please be patient.

Singaporeans wishing to return before the temporary cessation of flights but have not booked a ticket can do so via the SIA website at  www.singaporeair.com.  A one-way fare is being made available on the SIA website for Singapore citizens and permanent residents to access for travel home between 24 and 29 March 2020. Unfortunately the Singapore High Commission cannot assist with flight bookings on your behalf, due to privacy laws and the rules governing commercial transactions and payments.

For Singaporeans in need of other assistance, we seek your understanding and patience that in this difficult period the High Commission is also facing high call volumes.  We will respond to your calls and emails as soon as we can.

In the meantime, do join the Singapore Global Network’s (SGN) Australia and New Zealand Telegram group (https://t.me/SGNAusNZ) where you can find support and share experiences with other Singaporeans.
