3rd Singapore-Thailand Political Consultations, 18 August 2023

Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Albert Chua is on a working visit to Bangkok, Thailand. Permanent Secretary Chua and Permanent Secretary Sarun Charoensuwan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand co-chaired the 3rd Singapore-Thailand Political Consultations (STPC).

 

The Permanent Secretaries reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations between Singapore and Thailand, underpinned by regular high-level exchanges, strong defence and economic links, and people-to-people ties. They reviewed the good progress in bilateral cooperation in wide-ranging areas such as trade and investment, the green and digital economies, sustainable development, and human resource development.

 

The Permanent Secretaries discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation through key institutionalised links, especially the Singapore-Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) and the Singapore-Thailand Enhanced Economic Relationship (STEER) Ministerial Meeting. They agreed on the importance of regular exchanges in enhancing the partnership between both countries.

 

The Permanent Secretaries exchanged views on regional and international developments. They emphasised the importance of strengthening ASEAN Centrality, maintaining an open and inclusive regional architecture, and deepening regional economic integration.
