Leaders mourn Singapore’s First Prime Minister

Abu Dhabi — The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has sent a cable of condolences to Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of Singapore, on the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the first prime minister of the city state.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also dispatched similar cables of condolences to the Singaporean president on the death of Lee Kuan Yew.

Lee Kuan Yew, the Singaporean official who transformed the island outpost into one of the wealthiest and least corrupt countries in Asia, died in hospital on Monday morning. He was 91.
