Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Yukiya Amano signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Singapore-IAEA Third Country Training Programme (TCTP) on 26 January 2015.  Singapore and the IAEA have been collaborating to jointly provide technical assistance to other developing IAEA Member States to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies since 2000.  Under this new MOU, Singapore and the IAEA will provide joint technical assistance to other developing countries in more areas including nuclear medicine and nuclear safety.

Following the signing ceremony, Minister Fu hosted Amano to a working lunch.  They had a candid and wide-ranging discussion on international and regional developments in nuclear safety, and exchanged views on how the region can work more closely with the IAEA in the areas of nuclear safety and the peaceful applications of nuclear science.

Amano concludes his working visit to Singapore today.  His visit to Singapore was part of a regional tour of Southeast Asia, which includes Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Brunei.
