ASEAN, Australia to further Strengthen Strategic partnership

PR Tan Hung Seng attended the 8th ASEAN-Australia Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) Meeting at the ASEAN Secretariat on 8 May 2018. The JCC Meeting was co-chaired by Ambassador Min Lwin, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN, and the Australian Ambassador to ASEAN, Jane Duke, and attended by the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Member States as well as representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat and the Australian Mission to ASEAN.  At the meeting, both sides reviewed the implementation of the Plan of Action to Implement the Joint Statement for ASEAN-Australia Strategic Partnership (2015-2019) and highlighted progress made in the implementation the Plan of Action across all the three ASEAN Community pillars. Australia reaffirmed their continued support for ASEAN centrality and highlighted the importance of ASEAN unity in maintaining peace and stability in the region. The meeting also noted the convening of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit held on 17-18 March 2018 and discussed the follow up to outcomes of the Special Summit. In this regard, ASEAN and Australia looked forward to the swift implementation of the new 15 initiatives arising from the Special Summit.
