The Singapore Embassy in Manila hosted a “Lo Hei” Reception for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (PR) on 8 February 2019 to celebrate the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Pig. Fellow Singaporeans and PRs were greeted by a festive lion dance, and tossed yu sheng (a raw fish salad) for good fortune in the year ahead. In the Singapore tradition of the Lunar New Year, Lo Hei or “Prosperity Toss” is the mixing and tossing of yu sheng’s colourful array of ingredients. Each ingredient symbolises prosperity and good health. As we toss the dish, we turn to one another to wish each other prosperity and good luck.
