Humanitarian Assistance for the Philippine

07 Dec 2004

As part of on-going international relief efforts, the Singapore Government is working closely with the Singapore Red Cross Society on providing humanitarian assistance to the victims of the recent tropical storms that hit parts of the Philippines last week.

In this regard, the Singapore Government will be contributing US$50,000 to kick-start the assistance initiative. Singapore's contribution will be used to support ongoing relief operations in the affected areas.

In a letter of condolence, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong conveyed to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo the sympathies of the people and Government of Singapore. "I was saddened to learn of the widespread destruction and the loss of so many lives resulting from Tropical Depression 'Winnie'. Our thoughts are with the victims of this calamity as well as their loved ones," Prime Minister Lee added.
