Application for the Singapore Scholarship

30 Nov 2004

The Singapore Embassy is now accepting applications for the Singapore Scholarship for Academic Year 2005/2006. The Scholarship is awarded by the Singapore Government. This undergraduate Scholarship is tenable at the National University of Singapore, the Nanyang Technological University and the Singapore Management University. Except for Medicine and Dentistry, all other disciplines are open to recipients of the Scholarship.

Each award is tenable for three to four years of tertiary study, depending on the discipline, and it covers return airfare, full tuition fees, and a living allowance of S$4,200 (approximately 142,000 pesos) per annum. Scholars are selected on the basis of academic merit, leadership qualities and their potential to contribute to the Philippines' development. They are expected to return to their home countries upon graduation.

The Singapore Scholarship was announced by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong at the 6th ASEAN Summit in Hanoi in December 1998. The objective of the Singapore Scholarship at that time was to help alleviate the problem of educating young people in the ASEAN countries due to the regional economic crisis. The Singapore Scholarship underlines Singapore's firm belief that human resource development is key to economic development, and that training and education are vital in this age of globalisation.

Applicants must be Filipino citizens with excellent academic records and a good command of English. Shortlisted nominees will take the entrance examinations set by the Singapore universities. Nominees are further shortlisted based on their entrance examination results and will have to undergo an interview conducted by interviewers from the Singapore universities.

Applications for the Scholarship must be submitted on the prescribed form, which can be downloaded from the following website: http://www.mfa.gov.sg/scp. The completed application forms should be submitted to the Singapore Embassy in Manila by 1 January 2005. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Inquiries can be directed to:
