It is recommended that Singapore citizens make a photocopy of their passport and Identity Card before they leave home, so that they can be identified by these documents in case they lose their passport. Citizens are also advised to keep their Singapore National Registration Identity Card (NRIC) separately from the passport when travelling.

If your passport is lost, you should report it immediately. You can report the loss of your passport online with ICA here. Do note that passports reported lost cannot be used, even if later recovered. Therefore, you are encouraged to search for your passport thoroughly before reporting it lost.

For urgent travel to Singapore only

If a passport is lost / stolen / misplaced and you need to return to Singapore urgently, the Singapore High Commission can issue you with a Document of Identity (DOI) to facilitate your return to Singapore only. You should take the following steps:

  • Contact the Singapore High Commission as soon as possible to report the loss of the passport;
  • Schedule an appointment with the Consular Officer;
  • Bring the following to the appointment:
    • Original police report (if any, this is only applicable if you are a victim of crime)
    • Proof of Singapore citizenship status (NRIC, birth certificate, citizenship certificate, marriage certificate)
    • 2 passport-sized colour photographs
    • A copy of flight itinerary / electronic ticket to Singapore (if any)
    • Payment of DOI fee of GBP12.00 by cash or debit/credit card

After the identity has been verified by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the High Commission can issue a DOI to facilitate travel to Singapore only. Upon his/her return to Singapore, he/she must surrender the DOI and apply for a replacement passport with ICA.
