Prime Minister Lee has written a condolence letter to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The text of the letter is below:

Dear President Yudhoyono,

I was shocked and saddened to learn of the bomb explosions at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton Hotels in Jakarta today. On behalf of the Government and people of Singapore, I extend our heartfelt condolences to you, the Government of Indonesia, and all the victims and their families.

We strongly condemn these wanton acts of violence. It is a stark reminder that terrorist groups remain an ongoing and common threat to our societies. As a close neighbour and friend, Singapore stands ready to assist Indonesia in whatever way we can. We fully support Indonesia in your efforts to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice.

I am confident that under your able and decisive leadership, the Government and the people of Indonesia will prevail through these difficult times.

LEE HSIEN LOONG
