MFA Press Statement: State Visit of Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia HE Quentin Bryce, 16 - 18 November 2008

Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce, who is currently in Singapore on a State Visit, met with Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew at the Istana this afternoon.

During the calls, the leaders reaffirmed the close bilateral relations between Singapore and Australia, and exchanged views on developments in Asia, including China and India. Senior Minister Goh briefed Governor-General Bryce on the Sino-Singapore Eco-City project in Tianjin. Minister Mentor Lee and Governor-General Bryce discussed how global challenges such as climate change and terrorism would affect the region.

Earlier today, Governor-General Bryce visited the Changi Chapel and Museum. She then proceeded to the SAF's Headquarters Army Medical Services at Nee Soon Camp to meet the medical team to be deployed to Oruzgan, Afghanistan, in support of the Australian and Dutch forces there.
