MFA Press Statement: Visit of the Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Provincial Committee Wang Yang, 14 - 17 September 2008

Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangdong Provincial Committee Mr Wang Yang will visit Singapore from 14 - 17 September 2008. Mr Wang is visiting Singapore on the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng.

This will be Mr Wang's first visit to Singapore in his capacity as the Guangdong Party Secretary since he assumed the position in December 2007. During his visit, Mr Wang will meet with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng will also host Mr Wang and his delegation to a Welcome Dinner, while Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo will host lunch. While in Singapore, Mr Wang will visit the Housing Development Board (HDB), Jurong Town Corporation (JTC), PSA, and the Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX), where he will be briefed on economic, housing, port and other developments in Singapore. Mr Wang will also attend the Guangdong-Singapore Business Conference co-organised by the PRC Embassy and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI), as well as a briefing organised by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on Singapore's experience in industrial upgrade and success in higher education.

Mr Wang will be accompanied by senior provincial officials and an over 400-member strong trade delegation from more than 200 Chinese companies.
