President of the Republic of Hungary Dr László Sólyom was in Singapore for a State Visit from 22-23 May 2008. This is the first visit by a Hungarian President to Singapore.

During President Sólyom's meeting with President S R Nathan, both Presidents noted that Singapore and Hungary enjoyed good and long-standing relations. They agreed that both countries could strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, science and technology, sports training and air services. They further discussed collaboration on environment and climate change issues and the use of renewable energy sources. President Sólyom also invited President Nathan to make a State visit to Hungary.

During PM Lee Hsien Loong's call on President Sólyom, both leaders agreed to step up bilateral cooperation and strengthen people-to-people linkages through student exchanges. They also exchanged views on regional developments and global issues like climate change.

President Sólyom also met SM Goh Chok Tong and was hosted to a State Banquet in his honour by President Nathan.
