MFA Press Statement: Visit by Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed to Ghana

Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Foreign Affairs, Zainul Abidin Rasheed, who is in Accra, Ghana to attend the 12th Session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Akwasi Osei-Agye on 22 April 2008. Both sides noted the excellent bilateral relations and the strong cooperation at the international arena. FM Osei-Agye also highlighted how Ghana would soon join the ranks of the oil producing countries and expressed hope that this would present opportunities for collaboration between Singapore and Ghana in the oil-related sector.

SMS Zainul also met President John Kufour at the UNCTAD welcome reception on 20 April 2008. President Kufour expressed his deep appreciation to Singapore for sharing its development experience with Ghana. SMS Zainul also delivered a National Statement at the UNCTAD General Debate outlining Singapore's two-prong approach to help developing countries benefit from globalisation, first by sharing development experiences and second by ensuring that the international environment for trade remains conducive for developing countries to participate in.
