MFA Press Statement: Official visit of Minister George Yeo to Egypt, 2-6 April 2008

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo met HE Wang Yi, Executive Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, HE Riyad Al-Maliki, Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority, and HE Ahmed Lakhrif, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Morocco, on the sidelines of the second meeting of the Asia Middle East Dialogue (AMED) today in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

HE Wang Yi conveyed China's support for AMED and its role in fostering prosperity and peace in the region. On the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, Minister Yeo commented that the essence of the sporting event was its level competing field for international athletes regardless of race or creed. Singapore is opposed to any attempts to politicise the Games.

Minister Yeo invited HE Riyad Al-Maliki to visit Singapore and expressed the hope that President Mahmoud Abbas would make a visit in the near future. HE Ahmed Lakhrif welcomed more Singaporean investments in Morocco.
