MFA Press Statement: Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo to India

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo delivered a keynote address at the 13th Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit today on the theme "Does the 21st Century Belong to Asia?" during the plenary session. Minister Yeo also delivered remarks on the broadening and deepening bilateral relationship between Singapore and India at a CII networking luncheon session on India-Singapore: Roadmap for the Future. He fielded questions from the 500-member audience. During the luncheon session, Minister Yeo and Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Nanyang Technological University and CII on closer collaboration in fields such as research and development, technology transfer, student internships and teachng.

Minister Yeo had separate meetings with Non-Executive Chairman and Chief Mentor of Infosys Narayana Murthy and World Trade Organisation Director-General Pascal Lamy earlier in the day. Minister Yeo's meeting with Lamy was a meeting of old friends. They had a good exchange of views on advancing the Doha round of WTO negotiations. Minister Yeo affirmed Singapore's commitment to support Mr Lamy in concluding the Doha round.

Minister Yeo will leave for Kolkata this evening.
