MFA Press Statement: Singapore-World Bank Workshop For China Technical And Vocational Education And Training, Singapore, 10-19 Jan 07

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Bank Human Development Sector (East Asia and Pacific Region) and the World Bank Institute (Human Development) will be jointly organising a Workshop on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Singapore for a group of senior officials and practitioners from China. Scheduled for 10 to 19 January 2007, the Workshop is a key input to the World Bank's efforts to streamline the TVET frameworks in Guangdong, Shandong and Liaoning provinces. It enables the Chinese officials, school administrators and subject specialists to benchmark against international best practices in the design of TVET projects.

During the eight-day workshop, participants will study the development of a quality assurance system in the provision of TVET, drawing on the experiences of Singapore institutions such as Nanyang Polytechnic and Institute of Technical Education. Experts from the World Bank, South Korea, Australia and Italy will also share their perspectives at the Workshop. To showcase the public-private partnership in TVET programme and the linkage between TVET curriculum design and industries, the participants will have separate sessions with Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, International Enterprise Singapore as well as related private enterprises such as the Raffles Training Centre & Academy, Spa-Lon International Professional Academy and Murata. The participants will also meet with members of the Singapore Shandong Business Council, Singapore Liaoning Economic and Trade Council and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.

Singapore and the World Bank enjoy longstanding cooperative ties. We have worked together since 1996 to organise training programmes for countries under the Singapore-World Bank Third Country Training Programme, which is part of the Singapore Cooperation Programme.
