MFA Press Statement: Meeting between Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and the Republic of Korea Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ban Ki-Moon, 24 July 2006

Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and the Republic of Korea (ROK) Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ban Ki-Moon discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues. They reaffirmed that Singapore and the ROK should continue to broaden and deepen cooperation.

On bilateral cooperation, the two Ministers discussed ways to enhance cultural and people-to-people exchanges. They also agreed to work more closely on regional and multilateral issues such as maritime security and Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) membership.

On the regional situation, the Ministers expressed concern over the recent North Korean missile tests. Minister Ban also emphasised the importance of keeping the dialogue channel with North Korea open.
