Travel Notice for Ecuador

In view of the ongoing incidents of violent crime and civil unrest, the Government of Ecuador has declared a 60-day nationwide State of Emergency on 8 January 2024. From 23 January 2024, each canton in Ecuador will be assigned one of the following risk levels which dictates curfew hours for that area:

In view of the unstable security situation, MFA advises Singaporeans to exercise a high degree of caution while in Ecuador, and to take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, including monitoring the local news and heeding the instructions of local authorities. While the curfew is in effect, Singaporeans must stay indoors. Singaporeans should avoid areas where demonstrations and large gatherings are taking place and leave as soon as possible for safer areas, where necessary. Travellers should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance and medical insurance and be familiar with the terms and coverage.
