North Macedonia
Use our advice together with your own research from reputable sources to plan your trip.
Entry and Exit
Singaporeans can visit Macedonia for up to 90 days without a visa. Travellers should note that North Macedonia is not part of the Schengen Area.
As immigration requirements can change at short notice, travellers are advised to refer to the website of the Embassy of North Macedonia in New Delhi, which also covers Singapore, for the latest information. Alternatively, they may contact their travel agent, or the Embassy (mailmnr@mfa.gov.mk, or +389 2 3115 266).
Safety and Security
Petty crime is common, particularly in Skopje’s main downtown zone, shopping malls and entertainment zones.
Acts of inter-ethnic violence occur occasionally. Areas bordering Kosovo and Serbia are more volatile due to political tensions. In the event of disorder and unrest, remain indoors and avoid demonstrations and protests.
Some roads, especially those in rural areas, may be in poor conditions. Driving risks are higher due to inadequate lighting and the presence of farm equipment and animals.
Local Laws
Local authority officials have the right to demand that visitors produce identification documents. Visitors should carry their passports or photocopies of their passport and the entry stamp page at all times.
It is illegal to photograph border crossings and buildings of national and strategic importance (including government and military institutions) without prior approval from the local authorities. If in doubt, seek the advice of the local authorities.
The export of certain items with cultural or historical significance may be prohibited. Consult the local authorities to check if a permit may be required.
Additional Information
Earthquakes have occurred in Macedonia. During the summer months, bush and forest fires may occur. Monitor the local news and weather forecasts and comply with local advice. Purchase comprehensive travel insurance before departure.
