Travel Advisory: Situation in Haiti
5 June 2026
The Government of Haiti declared a nationwide state of emergency in Haiti on 4 September 2024 due to escalating gang violence. In August 2025, a three-month state of emergency was declared in the Ouest, Artibonite and Centre departments. While the state of emergency has officially expired, armed robberies, kidnappings and civil unrest remain frequent.
Singaporeans should defer non-essential travel to Haiti. Singaporeans in Haiti are advised to remain vigilant, monitor the local news closely, and heed the instructions of the authorities. They should avoid places where there are large crowds and take all necessary precautions for their personal safety, including purchasing comprehensive travel and medical insurance. Singaporeans are also encouraged to eRegister with MFA at https://eregister.mfa.gov.sg if they have not done so. Entry and Exit
Singaporeans can visit Haiti for up to 90 days without a visa.
A tourist fee of US$10 is payable at the airport. Singaporeans who wish to extend their stay in Haiti beyond 90 days should apply for an extension from the Department of Immigration and Emigration. Travellers’ passports should be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Haiti.
As entry and immigration requirements may change at short notice, we advise you to visit the website of the Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population (https://www.mspp.gouv.ht/) or the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship website (https://mae.gouv.ht) for the most updated information and to contact your travel agency, or the nearest Embassy of the Republic of Haiti to ensure that you have accurate information for your specific purpose prior to departure.
Safety and Security
Travellers are advised to exercise a high degree of caution in Haiti due to the high risk of violent crime and civil unrest. Kidnappings of Haitians and foreigners have increased in recent years. The security situation can deteriorate quickly, and local police may also lack resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents.
If you decide to travel to Haiti, be aware of your surroundings. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing jewellery, and where possible should travel in larger groups or with reliable local guides. If robbed, it is safer to hand over your cash and valuables without resistance.
Flooding is common after heavy rainfall and roads may be blocked. Drivers should be aware of their surroundings and drive cautiously at all times. Purchase comprehensive travel insurance before departure.
Local Laws
Drug offences carry heavy penalties. Pack your own luggage and do not accept ‘gifts’ from strangers or new acquaintances.
Travellers should carry their passports with them at all times.
Additional Information
Prior to your travel, consult your doctor for travel health advice regarding vaccinations required or recommended and purchase comprehensive travel insurance. Mosquito-borne diseases, including malaria, are prevalent in certain areas. Take precautions against insect bites.
Hurricanes and earthquakes may occur in Haiti. Hurricane season lasts from June to November each year. Flash floods and landslides are common. Visitors are advised to follow the advice of the local authorities, monitor the local news and the latest regional weather forecasts.
