Albania
Use our advice together with your own research from reputable sources to plan your trip.
Entry and Exit
Singaporeans can visit Albania for up to 90 days within 180 days of the date of initial entry without a visa, provided that no employment is sought.
As immigration requirements can change at short notice, travellers are advised to contact their travel agent or check the Albanian Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs visa website for the latest information.
Safety and Security
Petty crime, such as pickpocketing and theft, does occur, especially in public areas, tourist areas and on public transport. Be aware of your surroundings and take care of your belongings. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash or wearing jewellery. Violent crime, such as armed robbery, though unlikely, can occur.
Demonstrations and protests are common. While most are peaceful, they can quickly escalate and become violent. Large-scale protests can disrupt transport systems. Exercise caution, avoid affected areas, monitor developments through the local news, and heed the instructions of the local authorities.
Landmines continue to pose a risk in Albania’s northern region along its border with neighbouring Kosovo. Obey all warning signs and keep to paved roads.
Local Laws
Travellers should carry identification at all times.
Drug offences carry heavy penalties. Pack your own luggage and do not accept ‘gifts’ from strangers or new acquaintances.
Driving: Exercise extra caution while driving as road conditions are often poor with dim street lighting.
Additional Information
Health: Tap water and unpasteurised milk can cause illness. Travellers are advised to drink only bottled water and pasteurised (UHT) milk. Purchase comprehensive travel insurance before departure.
Albania is in a seismically-active zone. Earthquakes are not common but can occur. From December to February, flooding may occur due to severe weather conditions. Heavy snowfall can disrupt local transportation and services. Monitor local media and weather forecasts and adhere to the instructions of local authorities. If in doubt, seek the advice of the local authorities.
