Visit by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Brunei Darussalam, 14 to 17 July 2026
Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong visited Brunei Darussalam from 14 to 17 July 2026 to attend the 80th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. Senior Minister Lee was accompanied by Mrs Lee and Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development Goh Pei Ming. As part of the official celebrations, Senior Minister Lee attended the Royal Guard of Honour Parade, the Investiture Ceremony, and the Royal Banquet.
Senior Minister Lee had an audience with the Sultan on 15 July 2026. Senior Minister Lee conveyed birthday greetings from Singapore’s leaders as well as their appreciation for His Majesty’s longstanding and strong support for the enduring special relationship between Singapore and Brunei. His Majesty and Senior Minister Lee reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral ties, especially as both sides commemorate the 50th anniversary of defence ties in 2026 and 60th anniversary of the Currency Interchangeability Agreement in 2027.
Senior Minister Lee also had an audience with His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office. They discussed ways to further strengthen people-to-people ties among the next generation of leaders, officials, and youths from both countries, including via the Young Leaders’ Programme co-chaired by His Royal Highness and Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.
Senior Minister Lee met His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen, Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as other Bruneian Ministers, during which both sides explored ways to further deepen bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas including energy and food security, supply chain resilience, and people-to-people exchanges.
Senior Minister Lee also took the opportunity to visit and engage Singapore Armed Forces personnel training in Brunei. Senior Minister Lee also visited Barramundi Group’s aquaculture farm. Senior Minister Lee will return to Singapore on 17 July 2026.
