During his visit to the Egyptian Red Crescent headquarters this morning, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam witnessed the handover of a S$1.2 million aid package from the Singapore Red Cross to the Egyptian Red Crescent. The package will provide funding support for the procurement of critical medical supplies and the retrofitting of a mobile educational unit to provide classes especially for Palestinian children with injuries who have been evacuated to Egypt. It forms part of Singapore’s tenth tranche of humanitarian assistance for affected civilians in Gaza. With this latest donation, Singapore and Singaporeans have cumulatively contributed over S$23 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza.
This afternoon, President Tharman attended the Singapore-Egypt Business Forum which was organised by the Egypt General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Singapore Business Federation. Six agreements and MOUs were signed at the Forum and witnessed by Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli, Egypt Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El Khatib, and Egypt Minister of Education and Technical Education Mohamed Abdel Latif. The agreements and MOUs cover fields such as technical and vocational education and training, capacity-building in international arbitration, as well as public policy education (see list at Annex).
President Tharman will meet Grand Imam of Al Azhar His Eminence Prof Dr Ahmed Al Tayyeb on 22 September, following which they will witness the signing of a MOU between the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and Al Azhar University to renew cooperation on the Singapore College of Islamic Studies' Postgraduate Certificate in Islam in Contemporary Studies. President Tharman will also meet Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of Saint Mark, before departing Cairo for Singapore.

6 | MOU on Capacity-Building The MOU provides a broad framework of cooperation for the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP) and the National Training Academy (NTA) to: (a) launch joint customized executive education programmes for middle and senior executives in the field of policy development, public administration, and innovation in the public sector; (b) organize customized training programmes for NTA employees; (c) facilitate the enrolment of Egyptian participants nominated by the NTA in various LKYSPP Executive Education’s Open-Enrolment programmes, Masters programmes and the Senior Fellowship in Public Service programme (subject to LKYSPP’s admission criteria and application and review processes); (d) support NTA’s consultancy projects when feasible on a case-by-case basis by sharing relevant expertise on institutional development in Singapore; (e) exchange relevant academic publications, research articles and reports on public policy and when possible, develop joint publications in areas of mutual interest and at mutual agreement; and (f) any other forms of cooperation that may be jointly decided upon by the Parties. | Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy | National Training Academy |
