Your Excellency
On behalf of the people and Government of Singapore, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency on your election today, as the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Indonesia has in recent years gone through some disturbing and distressing times. With your election as President, I am hopeful that Indonesia will overcome its many problems and once again flourish as a united nation.
Indonesia and Singapore have enjoyed excellent relations and cooperated closely for many years. We have developed strong institutional, economic and personal ties that have withstood the test of time and crises. We have also cooperated closely in regional and international fora to enhance the security and prosperity of our region. I am confident that our bilateral cooperation will be further strengthened during your Presidency for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.
I wish you every success as you begin your term as the President of the Republic of Indonesia. My wife and I also extend our warmest wishes for your continued good health and success.
