Official Visit of Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr Johann Wadephul to Singapore, 2 February 2026
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Johann Wadephul made an Official Visit to Singapore on 2 February 2026.
Minister Wadephul was hosted to breakfast by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan. The Ministers reaffirmed the long-standing, substantive and multifaceted cooperation between Singapore and Germany across the economic, defence and science and technology fields. The Ministers welcomed the good progress on the implementation of the Singapore-Germany Strategic Partnership. The Ministers looked forward to deeper engagement between ASEAN and Germany, and between ASEAN and the EU. The Ministers also discussed international and regional developments, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to uphold and strengthen international law, the rules-based international order, and the multilateral trading system.
The Ministers launched the Singapore-Germany Year of Innovation (YOI). The YOI will build on our Strategic Partnership and complement the Framework for Sustainability and Innovation. It will further enhance cooperation between both countries in areas including AI, future technologies, clean technologies, defence technologies, business and start-up cooperation, and future-proofing our workforces.
Minister Wadephul also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. Prime Minister Wong reaffirmed the importance of our Strategic Partnership and our common interest in upholding multilateralism. Prime Minister Wong welcomed Germany’s desire to intensify collaboration with Singapore and ASEAN. Prime Minister Wong and Minister Wadephul also exchanged views on recent international and regional developments.
