Official Visit by Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Luc Frieden, 6 to 8 September 2026

Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Luc Frieden received a ceremonial welcome hosted by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, and met with PM Wong this morning. PM Wong also hosted an Official Lunch for PM Frieden.

During their meeting, PM Wong and PM Frieden reaffirmed the warm and growing relations between Singapore and Luxembourg, and discussed how the two countries can deepen their cooperation in areas ranging from finance to critical and emerging technologies. PM Wong welcomed Luxembourg’s intent to increase its engagement of Singapore and the Southeast Asian region, including through the establishment of the Luxembourg Embassy in Singapore in July 2026. The leaders agreed on the need for both countries as fellow small states to cooperate closely, including to uphold international law and a rules-based global order.

PM Frieden also called on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. They exchanged views on how like-minded countries such as Luxembourg and Singapore could work together to promote stability, predictability, and the rule of law in a volatile global environment. Both sides also had a wide-ranging discussion on the current geopolitical dynamics, including developments in Europe.

PM Frieden will deliver the 48th Singapore Lecture by the ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute, moderated by Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat, tomorrow.
