MFA Spokesperson's Comments on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Telephone Calls with Vice President of the United States of America Kamala D. Harris, 14 January 2025

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong and Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong received separate phone calls from Vice President of the United States of America Kamala D. Harris on 14 January 2025.

Prime Minister Wong and Senior Minister Lee were both updated by Vice President Harris on the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles which resulted in the cancellation of her Working Visit to Singapore on 15 January 2025. Prime Minister Wong and Senior Minister Lee conveyed their sympathies to the affected individuals and communities and expressed hope that the wildfires would be brought under control as soon as possible.

Prime Minister Wong and Senior Minister Lee also thanked Vice President Harris for the Biden Administration’s efforts in strengthening Singapore-US ties. They noted that both sides had worked closely to deepen cooperation in traditional areas such as the economy and defence, as well as to broaden ties by institutionalising cooperation in new areas such as climate change, critical and emerging technologies, and nuclear energy.
