Referring to reports over the weekend of the Japanese Diet's ratification of the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) Agreement, the MFA Spokesman said:
"This is welcome news. It signals Japan's strong commitment to ASEAN."
The Spokesman added:
"ASEAN and Japan are long-standing economic partners. Japan is among ASEAN's top three trading and investment partners, with a total trade volume of US$162 billion (as of 2006). The AJCEP will boost two-way trade between ASEAN and Japan, and provide strong impetus for economic growth and prosperity in both regions."
