"The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs have written to congratulate Mr Ban Ki-moon on his appointment as the next UN Secretary-General.
Mr Ban is well known to Singapore. He has a wealth of experience in diplomacy and is a strong and capable leader. His steady hand at the helm will stand the United Nations in good stead at a critical phase of its history.
Singapore will do all we can to support Mr Ban and looks forward to working closely with him to meet the challenges ahead. "
