In response to media queries on the ongoing conflict in Libya, the MFA spokesman said:
Singapore supports the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1973 (2011). The primary objective of this resolution is to protect the civilian population in Libya which is also the objective of the Council of the League of Arab States which on 12 March 2011 called on the UNSC to impose a No-Fly Zone in Libya and to establish safe areas for the Libyan people and foreign nationals in the country. It is our hope that a long drawn out conflict in which civilians on both sides will be the main victims and which could destabilise the entire region can be avoided.
