In response to media queries on Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid's remarks that the incident could be avoided and that sea patrols could be carried out by both sides, the MFA Spokesman said:
"It is premature for us to prejudge the cause of the incident. As the incident happened in Singapore territorial waters, our Maritime Port Authority will investigate the matter thoroughly."
