Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Manpower Mr Sam Tan will attend the White House Arctic Science Ministerial (WHASM) in Washington, D.C from 27 to 28 September 2016. The WHASM will bring together Ministers and officials from the Arctic Council member and observer states as well as representatives from the Arctic Council Permanent Participants to advance international scientific collaboration on Arctic-related issues. This is part of Singapore’s ongoing engagement of the Arctic since becoming an Arctic Council observer in 2013. During the visit, MOS Tan will attend a dinner hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy on 27 September 2016, and deliver a speech during the plenary session on “Empowering Citizens through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Leveraging Arctic Science” on 28 September 2016. MOS Tan will be accompanied by Vice-Provost of the National University of Singapore, Professor Chan Eng Soon, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
