        Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan attended the funeral of the late Sultan of Perak, His Royal Highness Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah, in Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia on 29 May 2014.  Minister Balakrishnan conveyed condolences on behalf of the Singapore Government to His Royal Highness’ family and to the people of Perak.  His Royal Highness was Malaysia’s ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong (1989-1994), and had a distinguished career in the legal service, including serving as the Lord President of the Federal Court (1982-1984).  His Royal Highness passed away on 28 May 2014 at the age of 86.
