Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam is on a working visit toBrunei from 2 to 3 November 2012.

Minister Shanmugam had an audience with His MajestySultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei, at Istana Nurul Iman today. His Majesty and Minister Shanmugam reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations. His Majesty welcomed the frequent high-level exchanges including the recent visit by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Brunei from 29 to 31 October 2012.

Minister Shanmugam was hosted to lunch byMinister of Foreign Affairs and TradeHis Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah. His Royal Highness and Minister Shanmugam had a good discussion on regional developments. Minister Shanmugam reiterated Singapore’s support for Brunei’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2013, and noted that Singapore and Brunei share common views on many regional and international issues.

Minister Shanmugam also had separate meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II Pehin Lim Jock Seng and Minister of Energy at the Prime Minster’s Office Pehin Yasmin Umar. The discussions touched on Brunei’s preparations for its ASEAN Chairmanship, and the new cooperation initiatives that arose from PM Lee’s visit to Brunei.

Minister Shanmugam returns to Singapore today.
