Chairperson of the Lower House Committee for Rule of Law, Peace and Tranquility in the Myanmar Parliament and Chairperson of the National League for Democracy Daw Aung San Suu Kyi called on President Tony Tan Keng Yam, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Speaker of Parliament Madam Halimah Yacob today. Emeritus Senior Minister also hosted lunch for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and her delegation.

Following from their last meeting during President’s State Visit to Myanmar in April 2013, President and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi exchanged views on Myanmar’s development priorities, including job creation, health and education. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said that ensuring the employability of Myanmar’s citizens was one of her key concerns. In both her meetings with Prime Minister and Emeritus Senior Minister, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi discussed domestic developments in Myanmar and Myanmar’s development priorities. Prime Minister reaffirmed Singapore’s support for Myanmar’s Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2014, and reiterated our commitment in facilitating Myanmar’s development.

Earlier in the day, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi met Madam Speaker at the Parliament House, where they discussed their work in their respective Parliaments. Madam Speaker also welcomed further exchanges between parliamentarians from Singapore and Myanmar to deepen mutual understanding and facilitate bilateral cooperation.

This afternoon, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received briefings from the Ministry of Education and the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau on Singapore’s education system and anti-corruption policies. She was also hosted to a tour of the vocational training facilities at the Institute of Technical Education College East by Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Education Indranee Rajah.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi departs Singapore tomorrow.
