Recognising the critical situation in Myanmar in the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis, the Singapore Chair of ASEAN SOM convened an informal session of ASEAN senior officials today to discuss how ASEAN could respond in support of the Myanmar Government. The meeting was informed that Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo had earlier today written to Myanmar Foreign Minister U Nyan Win to convey an offer by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for Singapore to host a meeting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers to discuss how ASEAN can help Myanmar in its relief and recovery efforts. The officials are working out the details of the special Foreign Ministers meeting.
