Their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan will make a State Visit to Singapore from 8 to 10 June 2006 at the invitation of President S R Nathan. Their Majesties will be accompanied by Upper House member Yoriko Kawaguchi and other officials. This is the first State Visit by the Emperor and Empress of Japan to Singapore. Their Majesties had previously visited Singapore in 1970 and 1981 as Crown Prince and Crown Princess.


President S R Nathan and Mrs Nathan will host a State Banquet in honour of Their Majesties. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee will host lunch for Their Majesties while Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Mrs Lee will call on Their Majesties. During the visit, Their Majesties will visit the Japanese Gardens and the National Library.
